Jonata Todos Red Blend 2020 (also known as Jonata Todos Proprietary Red or simply Todos) is the flagship "everyone" or kitchen-sink red blend from Jonata in the Ballard Canyon AVA of Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, California. Winemaker Matt Dees (who also makes The Paring) crafts it as a more approachable, volume-driven wine compared to Jonata's single-varietal or site-specific bottlings like La Sangre de Jonata or Le Saint Georges, yet it punches well above its "entry-level" status with serious structure and complexity.

Blend and Production

• Composition: 57% Syrah, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah, 6% Cabernet Franc, and ~3% miscellaneous varieties (a mix of other reds and whites planted on the estate, such as Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, or Viognier—reflecting the "Todos" or "all" philosophy).
• AVA: Ballard Canyon (sandy soils, warm days with cooling ocean influence).
• Aging: 20 months in 100% French oak barrels of various sizes, with only 18–35% new oak (depending on the exact lot). The wine is not racked during aging.
• Alcohol: ~14.5% ABV.
• Production: Around 2,300–2,400 cases.

This Rhône-Bordeaux hybrid blend emphasizes the estate's diverse plantings and delivers big fruit with savory balance, thanks to Ballard Canyon's natural acidity.

Tasting Notes 

Aromas: Ripe blueberries, fresh plums, boysenberry, black cherry, chocolate nibs, cracked pepper, smoked meat, lavender, clove, bacon, espresso bean, new leather, licorice, spice, scorched earth, violet candies, balsamic, and nutmeg. It shows a sweet-savory interplay with floral and feral edges.

Palate: Full-bodied with plush, rounded texture, dark fruit concentration (blackberry compote, cassis, black raspberries), beautiful ripe tannins, medium acidity for lift, and a long, palate-staining finish. Layers of earthiness, char, tobacco, and spice keep it balanced rather than overly extracted. It drinks generously now but has the structure to evolve.

Style: Bold, personality-driven, and Rhône-leaning with Cabernet structure—big fruit and bold character anchored by savory detail and acidity. It's more immediate and generous than some past vintages due to the warm 2020 growing season, yet remains refined and age-worthy.
