Produced by Palmento Carranco, a winery born in 2018 from a collaboration between historic Piedmont producer Borgogno (one of the oldest in Barolo) and Etna native Tornatore family. The estate is in Contrada Carranco, Castiglione di Sicilia, on Etna's northern slope — ideal for high-quality wines due to volcanic soils, altitude (~500-600 meters / ~1,600 feet), and cool temperatures.
Grape and Style
- 100% Carricante — an ancient native Etna grape known for high acidity, structure, and longevity (from Sicilian "u carricanti," meaning "loaded" for its abundant yields when not limited).
- Volcanic soils impart distinctive minerality and savoriness.
Tasting Notes
- Color — Straw yellow, often with greenish reflections.
- Aroma — Green apple, citrus (grapefruit, lemon), white stone fruit, spring flowers, aromatic herbs, and subtle iodine or flinty notes.
- Palate — Intense, elegant, savory, with vibrant acidity, saline minerality, and fruity/herbaceous persistence. Structured yet fresh, with great aging potential.
