Rijckaert Arbois Grand Elevage Savagnin 2022 is a white wine from the Arbois appellation in France's Jura region, produced by Domaine Rijckaert (now under winemaker Florent Rouve, who took over from founder Jean Rijckaert). It's made from 100% Savagnin grapes, often from old vines (vieilles vignes), and is an ouillé (topped-up) style—unlike oxidative Vin Jaune, it's aged to preserve freshness while gaining complexity.

Key Details

  • Winemaking: Aged around 24 months on lees in barrels, with occasional bâtonnage (stirring) and topping up to avoid oxidation. This results in a rich, structured wine with minerality and salinity.
  • Tasting Notes: Expect aromas of ripe yellow apple, lemon/citrus zest, bergamot, and subtle cedar or nutty hints (almonds, hazelnuts). On the palate, it's powerful and dense, with chewiness, fruity/sappy notes, intense minerality, and an impressive saline, long finish. It's full-bodied yet fresh, with great purity and complexity.
  • Pairings: Excellent with Comté cheese, pork dishes, potatoes, rich poultry, or mountain cheeses—its salinity and acidity cut through richness beautifully.
  • Style Note: This is a non-oxidative Savagnin (non-ouillé would be more nutty/sherry-like), showcasing the grape's potential for elegance and depth.
