Loire shellfish wine. Dry, salty, lemon-and-wet-stone Muscadet aged on its lees. Oysters' best friend.
The Story
Domaine Raphaël Luneau (R de la Grange) sits in Le Landreau, in the heart of the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine vineyards near Nantes, where the Loire meets the Atlantic. Raphaël makes this wine from 100% Melon de Bourgogne. It rests on its lees (sur lie), which gives a little texture without losing the snap.
In the Glass
Pale straw with green tints. Pear, green apple, honeydew, and white flowers on the nose. The palate is bone dry, fresh, and delicate, finishing with a saline, wet-stone minerality that makes you want another sip.
Pair It With
Oysters, raw bar, steamed mussels, shrimp boil, fried calamari, sushi, fish and chips, goat cheese.
Serve
Well chilled, around 45°F. Drink now and over the next couple of years, while it's fresh.
Why You'll Love It
Muscadet is one of wine's best-kept secrets, and this one is easy to explain: if you like a crisp, mineral, food-friendly white and don't want to think hard, this is your bottle.
