Producer: Le Chiuse is run by Lorenzo Magnelli, great-great-grandson of Ferruccio Biondi-Santi. The family supplied fruit to the Biondi-Santi Riservas until about 1990, then began bottling under their own name.
Wine details
- Grape: Sangiovese (Grosso), DOC Rosso di Montalcino.
- Vineyard and soil: the estate has eight hectares of marine-fossil soils with clay, marl and tufa.
- Winemaking: larger clusters from the same Sangiovese parcels as the Brunello, vinified for freshness, then aged about 13 months in large Slavonian botte. Released in the second year after harvest.
Pairings: grilled meats, Tuscan salumi, pasta al ragù, roast chicken, aged pecorino. Serve at about 60–64°F, with a short decant.
