A joint venture between the legendary Gaja family and the Graci family of Sicily, IDDA was born on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna — Europe's highest active volcano. Rather than follow the crowd with Nerello Mascalese, Gaja and Graci champion the white Carricante grape, grown on the unconventional southwest-facing slopes of Biancavilla and Belpasso. The result is a white wine of volcanic origin unlike anything else in Italy.

Producer: IDDA (Gaja x Graci)
Region: Sicily, Italy
Appellation: Sicilia DOP
Grape: 100% Carricante
Aging: 6–9 months in oak and stainless steel
Alcohol: 12.5%
Drinking Window: 2024–2030

Tasting Notes

Savory and expressive on the nose with wisteria, cantaloupe, marzipan, and a clear citrus note. Stone dust and subtle hydrocarbon hints add volcanic complexity. On the palate, the wine is precise and saline — bright acidity drives notes of peach, passion fruit, and papaya — with a clean, lingering mineral finish. The 2024 shows exceptional focus and linearity. 93 Points, Vinous.

Food Pairings

  • Grilled branzino or sea bass
  • Seared scallops with lemon butter
  • Burrata with heirloom tomatoes
  • Linguine alle vongole
  • Mild aged pecorino
  • Sushi and sashimi
  • Light herb risotto

Sustainability

IDDA vineyards are farmed with minimal intervention on ancient volcanic soils at 600–800m elevation. The Graci family brings a generation of traditional, low-impact viticulture to Mount Etna's indigenous vines. No formal certification, but chemical inputs are minimized by the nature of the volcanic terroir itself.
