Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc North Coast 2024 750ml

Cakebread — Jack Cakebread shot Ansel Adams and Julia Child before he ever made wine, and this Sauvignon Blanc still gets a splash of Semillon, an old Bordeaux trick almost nobody in Napa bothers with anymore.

Cakebread Cellars, Rutherford (Napa Valley), founded 1973 by Jack and Dolores Cakebread. Family-owned, now run by sons Bruce and Dennis.

The wine: 93% Sauvignon Blanc, 7% Semillon, 13.8–13.9% ABV, sourced across Carneros, Suscol Springs, Rutherford and Calistoga plus a North Coast component.

Tasting notes: pink grapefruit, Granny Smith apple, kiwi, honeydew, guava and lime zest on the nose; citrus, green apple, orange sherbet and lemongrass on the palate; crisp mineral finish.

Food pairings: aperitif, shellfish/ceviche, poultry, pasta, salads, fresh herbs — Cakebread's own site pairs it with crab tostadas and Mexican street corn flatbread.

Certification: Napa Green Winery certified; organic farming practices, solar power, integrated pest management (falconry), IWCA member targeting carbon neutral by 2030. Not certified-organic or biodynamic as a wine.
